exhibition view
The island of Lampedusa is a symbol of migration from Africa to Europe. The photo and video archives on display help to afford an understanding of the phenomenon of imigration. Various protagonists and visual sources were consulted, opening up different visual perspectives on this theme. The exhibition offers an opportunity to develop a more sophisticated view than that habitually presented in the media.
The following people were consulted for this project: Mauro Seminara and Alessio Genovese (photographers); Antonio Morana (coastguard); Giacomo Sferlazzo; CIE Lampedusa; Laura Rizello and Fiorella Friscia (Red Cross); Noufou Yabre, Andy Joseph, Benmet Aron, Isaac Cashmoo, Sekou Balde and Amaniel(Girasoli Mazzarino).
The project was realised thanks to the friendly support of ArtChallenge and Maria Grazia Mazzocchi in cooperation with the Villa Romana, Florence and the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
Special thanks go to: Valeria Bonadonna, Arnoldo Mosca Mondadori, Federico Miragliotta, Cettina Nicosiano, Calogero Santoro and Michele Liuzzo, Piero Busetta and Giovanni Fragapane, Samuel Korn, Tobias Wootton, Alina Schmuch and Jan Erbelding.
