Midsummer Night

SADI, Lamin Fofana, Jessica Ekomane, Afrorack
In Zusammenarbeit mit OOH-Sounds und NUB Project Space

For the second iteration of the series, a sonic intervention by Jessica Ekomane, Afrorack, Lamin
Fofana and SADI which will happen on Wednesday 21 June, from 7pm to 12am.

On the occasion of Midsummer Night, Villa Romana is hosting an incredible constellation of stars of
experimental music and contemporary art. On the longest day of light and shortest night of the year,
we are willing to perform an elegy to the Sun, embracing it in its highest position in the sky. The very
cosmological celebrations of this summer solstice will see the participation of: our fellow Jessica
Ekomane, who will perform with Afrorack, and of special guest Lamin Fofana, who will crown his
short-term residency at Villa Romana with a special sonic intervention. Last but not least, opening the
celebration, musician and sound-artist SADI will help us align with the stars with a welcome
experimental DJ set.

JESSICA EKOMANE was born in France and lives in Berlin. She creates situations where the sound
acts as a transformative element for the space and the audience. Her ever-changing and immersive
sonic landscapes are grounded in questions such as the relationship between individual perception
and collective dynamics or the investigation of listening expectations and their societal roots.
'Multivocal' is Jessica Ekomane's hypnotic debut album on the peerless Important records label.

AFRORACK, born Bamanya Brian, is a Ugandan multidisciplinary experimental artist. A pioneer of
self-built modular synths in Africa, his serpentine polyrhythms and circuit-bent fractals surely resonate
the musical traditions of the region, while also taking them somewhere quite unprecedented. His
debut album 'The Afrorack' was released in 2022 on Hakuna Kulala, the Nyege Nyege imprint.

Raised between Sierra Leone and Guinea before moving to the United States, LAMIN FOFANA is a
multimedia artist and musician whose practice explores themes of displacement, identity and
immigration. With releases on Peak Oil, Hundebiss,Sci-Fi & Fantasy and Avian, his repertoire ranges
from experimental electronica to ambient and techno. The recent work 'Unsettling Scores' (Peak Oil) is
a sublime yet quizzical work, a suite of 4th World ambient fraught with noise and smudged with
ghostly grooves.

SADI / Sam Barreto Cardoso Bertoldi, is a musician and sound-artist active since 2007. Born as a
percussionist and multi-instrumentalist, he produces experimental/ambient and glitch music for
contemporary art installations and dance performances. His inspiration is nature: his art projects invite
immersion in a world of surreal dreams through experimentation with glitch, ambient sound textures
and interpolation of broken rhythms.

The project is realised with the contribution of the Fondazione CR Firenze.
